Chelsea Haith launches The Sound of Contagion: AI, narrative, and music composition

As part of the partnership between the University of Oxford and Universität der Künste Berlin to foster creative collaborations, Chelsea Haith (Oxford), Robert Laidlow (Royal Northern College of Music) and Wenzel Mehnert (UdK Berlin) have developed a 20-minute narrative piece derived from AI algorithmic outputs drawn from a dataset of pandemic literature from Sophocle's Oedipus Rex to Severance by Ling Ma. The project is in the process of composing music using AI and acquiring funding to input their recently commissioned concept art into an algorithm to contribute to the eventual production of a short film. The over-arching project engages with questions of how we can use AI to be more creative, and how creativity can improve how we use AI.

Details of the research and the project are available on their newly launched website: https://www.soundofcontagion.com/ and you can hear more about the project on the Oxford/Berlin Creative Collaborations podcast, episodes 1 and 6:
