Calling all GCSE and A-Level state school pupils! Want to win a share of £100 in Amazon vouchers? Want to have your work published on the Oxford University English Faculty website? Then read on…

In June 2020, following the first nation-wide lockdown, The Chipping Norton Theatre and the University of Oxford collaborated to produce a film on the theme of contagion, with music, drama, and short talks: https://youtu.be/wjddFe_Gaxk.

We would like you to watch the film and consider whether it has influenced the way in which you think about the pandemic and the current third lockdown. We’ve already run a competition in which we had excellent artistic responses, which you can see here: https://www.contagioncabaret.co.uk/your-lockdown. Further resources were produced for engagement with schools, which you can find here: https://www.contagioncabaret.co.uk/get-involved.

We are now looking for written responses of all kinds: short stories, one-act plays, monologues, poems, song lyrics, any format that allows you to express yourself in writing! Please accompany your entry with a few sentences outlining how your submission has been influenced by the Contagion Cabaret.

The deadline for submitting a piece of original work is 5pm on Monday 19th April 2021. There will be a first (£50), second (£30), and third (£20) place, along with seven runners-up. Please ensure your entry includes your name, school, year group, and email address. Please submit your work by email to competitions@ell.ox.ac.uk.
