Congratulations to Professor Elleke Boehmer who has accepted an invitation to become the next Patron of the Katherine Mansfield Society.

Professor Boehmer commented:

"I am completely over the moon to become patron of the international Katherine Mansfield Society, taking over from the writer Kirsty Gunn. Both as a path-breaking modernist writer and as an antipodean, Katherine Mansfield has always been a model to me. The appointment is a great honour, and I will strive to do her memory justice. From the day that, aged around eleven or twelve, I first pulled The Garden Party down from my mother’s small shelf of English-language books, and went outside to sit in the cool shade of the mulberry tree and begin reading, Katherine Mansfield’s work has been my inspiration and my writing model. Many thanks to the Society for placing your trust in me."

Formed in December 2008, the Katherine Mansfield Society has been set up to promote and encourage the worldwide study and enjoyment of Katherine Mansfield’s writing. It is a forum for the exchange of information and for research collaboration.

In her new role, Professor Boehmer will deliver one of the keynote addresses at the society’s upcoming conference in July at the University of Birmingham.
