I am a Departmental Lecturer and Tutor at St. Anne’s College. Before that, I was a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow and Early Career Fellow at Balliol College. My first book, Shelley’s Broken World: Fractured Materiality and Intermitted Song (2021), was shortlisted for the University English First Book Prize; the paperback came out in 2023. My second book is a large reception history: Shelleyolatry and Shelleyphobia: Percy Bysshe Shelley and His Readers (1851–1922). I am building an accompanying digital gallery of illustrated editions and visual representations of the poet. The website is hosted by Oxford University. I also edit Shelley’s verse translations from the Greek.
Beyond Shelley, my research spans things Romantic and Victorian: textual scholarship and its history; the disciplinarity of 'English Literature'; philosophy vs literature; critical and theoretical fads; close reading; and the relationship between practical criticism and legal interpretation.
