Late-medieval English poetry and its manuscripts; gifts, objects and medieval romance; the poet, bureaucrat and melancholic Thomas Hoccleve; biblical allusion in medieval literature; modern engagements with medieval culture.
At undergraduate level I teach language and literature up to c.1550, and aspects of language study, criticism and theory.
At postgraduate level, I teach masters and doctoral students in areas of study linked to my interests. I am currently one of the convenors of the Faculty’s MSt in English, 650–1550.
In 2012 I received one of the University’s Teaching Excellence Awards.
