The English Faculty welcomes visitors from other academic institutions, and has options for both staff and students.
Academic Visitors
Academic Visitorship is a relatively informal status for which academic members of staff from other institutions are eligible to apply. Applicants must have been awarded their PhD and must have a clear research programme related to English Language and/or Literature. Academic Visitor status may be granted for periods between 1 Month and 12 months.
Academic Visitors are eligible to use the English Faculty’s communal IT facilities, graduate common room and work space in our graduate work-area and are entitled to attend undergraduate lectures. They will also be given a University Card which provides access to the Bodleian and English Faculty Libraries. Accommodation or office space is not provided and Academic Visitors are not allocated an academic supervisor or entitled to administrative support.
There is an administrative fee of £1,000 for each three-month period of membership, up to a maximum charge of £3,000. Where membership extends beyond nine months, no further fee will be charged for the remaining period. Applicants should complete the application form, which is available from the English Faculty Office (english.office@ell.ox.ac.uk). An information sheet with further details is available here.
Please note that all Academic Visitor memberships are now required to commence on the first day of a calendar month. This does not mean that you need to be physically present at the Faculty on the first of the month; you may begin your visit at any point on or after the start date of your membership.

Visiting Graduate or Undergraduate Students
We welcome visiting undergraduate and graduate students from other institutions.
